It didn't come to me fully formed. The melodic hook came to me while I was on stage playing something completely unrelated. I was vibrating on a frequency that allowed the hook to flow through me. It snapped me out of the dimension I was in, the song I was playing, the other musicians, the audience... It all melted away and I locked into this piece. In an instant it passed and I was back on the gig. Fast forward many decades and my poet friend, Gregory Schwartz, sent me this poem and that melody from high school came back to me, this time fully formed. Elle ne m'est pas venue pleinement formée. Le hook mélodique m'est venu alors que j'étais sur scène en train de jouer quelque chose de complètement différent. Je vibrais sur une fréquence qui a permis au hook de traverser. Cela m'a arraché à la dimension dans laquelle j'étais — la chanson que je jouais, les autres musiciens, le public... Tout s'est dissous et je me suis verrouillé sur ce morceau. En un instant, c'est passé et j'étais de retour sur scène. Des décennies plus tard, mon ami poète, Gregory Schwartz, m'a envoyé ce poème et cette mélodie du lycée m'est revenue, cette fois pleinement formée.
